This amplifier is single ended and uses two types of tubes:
* ECC83/12AX7 for input stage
* EL34 for output stage
A powerful tube headphone amplifier capable of driving the most demanding headphones on the market. This OTC (Transformer coupled) amplifier was designs with power hungry Planars in mind and has output settings of 16, 32, 60 ,150 ohm which allows it to always deliver its full 6W power potential.
The high voltage power supply is choke regulated and well filtered for good performance. All transformers- including the output transformers are custom designed and wound in-house for this amplifier. We like to wind all our transformers ourselves because this aspect is important for tube amps. Transformer windings are intricate and materials used are high quality.
Output taps for 16, 32, 60 and 300 ohms are available and the user can switch to the right impedance load by rotating the impedance dial. (There’s also an alternative option for 40, 80, 150ohm steps).
Now about power output which is the main reason why this amp was conceived, designed and built…. We have 5.5-6.5w continuous output from this amp and this number is very conservatively quoted. The amp is capable of 10w+ output but we tried to tame it carefully so as not to overpower certain headphones if used with this amp.
As for the #5’s sound signature, we would characterize it as a bold, powerful and highly dynamic sound, very revealing with a warm and dark nature. The Lush and textured vocals would melt you in your seat, and with its powerful you would soon realize you’ve been tapping your feet all along. Be warned, it’s can cause addiction.
